Unley Shopping Centre

Unley Shopping Centre is located in the heart of Unley’s shopping precinct with more than 40 stores all under one roof. TSDB were contracted to take on the complete Main Entry Façade upgrade and replacement facing into the heavily used open Eastern Carpark directly off of Unley Road.

The works also included the complete upgrade to the Southern Entrance and the carpark lighting to both East and South Carparks, new turret and new pylon sign at the main entry.

While all these works were carried out the Centre was to remain fully operational, and all stores be able to operate without disruption and full use of the carpark. Inserted into the middle of the main entrance was a brand new 12m high façade and glass canopy structure which was constructed and clad while keeping the front of the shopping centre open.

The success of this project was centred on the careful planning and staging of temporary and final works such that the impact on shoppers and store owners was minimal while a large complex structure clad in high end materials of folded zinc, Alucobond and large expanses of high level glass was constructed in front of, around and above them and all carried out in a safe manner for all.

There are also sections of 8m high polished precast panels which were erected and propped which structural steel infills that had to also be installed from within the operating carpark and creating the appropriate clear safety zones which required further carefully planned pedestrian and vehicle management.

The results speak for themselves with a striking and imposing structure along the entire Eastern Facade with the main entry now well-defined with large distinctive precast portals bookending the central glazed entry statement all flanked either side with secondary entry portals, tying in the theme of the entire project. This provides the look and feel of an entirely newly built, sophisticated shopping centre, which as able to remain operational through the entire process.
